Historically, chiefs have played a significant role in the development of Ghanaian communities. Prior to the establishment of government, chiefs performed the the executive, judicial and legislative functions within the communities they rule. The question that keep coming back to me is that what roles are chiefs performing today in modern Ghana.
This blog intends to stimulate discussions on the role of chiefs in Ghana. What roles should chiefs play in the development of their communities besides being custodian of lands. Should they sell lands and keep the money whilst the entire community needs support systems like job opportunities, schools, clinics etc?
As discussions progresses we will delve into specific regions to see whether chiefs and king (s) are meeting the needs of their subjects. For purposes of this blog's discussions, what role do you think chiefs should play in the lives of the subjects they serve?
